Punisher Spider-Man team-up energy is about to hit the MCU like a freight train made of bullets and web fluid. New images from Spider-Man: Brand New Day have leaked, and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle is standing right next to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker looking like the world’s most unhinged chaperone. This is not your friendly neighborhood team-up. This is a man who solves problems with bullets mentoring a kid who solves problems with science projects, and I am absolutely here for it.
The images show Punisher in full tactical gear, that iconic skull emblem gleaming on his chest, while Spider-Man hovers nearby in his classic red and blue suit. They look like they’re about to raid a compound together, which makes sense because Marvel’s new comic series Spider-Man: Long Way Home is literally about these two plus Hulk fighting A.I.M. to steal a Cosmic Cube. The comic drops June 17, but the movie hits July 31, and Marvel clearly wants us to connect the dots like the conspiracy theorists we are.
Punisher Spider-Man dynamic works because they’re opposites in every way that matters. Peter believes in redemption, second chances, and not murdering people. Frank believes in permanent solutions, maximum casualties, and making sure the bad guys stay down. Putting them in the same movie is like dropping a grenade into a physics lecture—chaotic, destructive, and weirdly educational.

The leaked set photos suggest they’re working together against some larger threat, which means Frank has to temporarily stop shooting everyone long enough to cooperate with a teenager. This is the same Frank Castle who once executed a guy for selling drugs to kids. Now he’s standing next to an actual kid in spandex, presumably trying not to give him PTSD. The comedy writes itself.
Punisher Spider-Man team-up also raises interesting questions about the MCU’s morality. After No Way Home, Peter erased himself from everyone’s memory and started over as a full-time hero. He’s more isolated, more hardened, more willing to do what needs to be done. Sound familiar? That’s basically Frank’s origin story. The movie seems to be exploring what happens when Spider-Man starts sliding toward Punisher’s worldview, and whether Frank pulls him back or pushes him over the edge.

Bernthal has been preparing for this since Daredevil: Born Again reintroduced him to the MCU. His Punisher is leaner, meaner, and somehow even more damaged than the Netflix version. Holland’s Spider-Man is coming off four years of solo hero work that we haven’t seen yet. When these two collide, it’s going to be less “buddy cop” and more “angry uncle teaches nephew how to interrogate suspects.”
Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is also reportedly in the mix, making this the most dysfunctional trio since my last group project. Hulk brings the muscle, Spider-Man brings the heart, and Punisher brings the war crimes. Together, they fight A.I.M. and probably each other.
See Punisher Spider-Man team-up in theaters July 31 when Spider-Man: Brand New Day finally arrives.
