Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool 3, has shared his thoughts on the online leaks of set photos that surfaced a few months ago, offering fans a glimpse into the highly anticipated film. While the leaked images generated excitement among fans, production on the movie was halted due to a strike, leaving audiences eager for more updates.

The Excitement of Set Photo Leaks

In July, fans were treated to an unexpected thrill when the first look at Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine costume emerged online. The costume, reminiscent of its comic book counterpart, thrilled fans and sparked anticipation for the film. Subsequent leaks unveiled more tantalizing glimpses of the movie, including an intense showdown between Wolverine and Deadpool and a scene featuring a colossal destroyed 20th Century Fox logo, hinting at a connection to the Void from the Loki series.

However, the excitement was short-lived, as the SAG-AFTRA strike brought production on Deadpool 3 to a grinding halt, leaving fans yearning for more updates on the project.

Shawn Levy’s Reaction to Set Leaks

In a recent interview with Deadline, director Shawn Levy acknowledged the leaks that emerged during the on-location production of Deadpool 3. He expressed gratitude to the internet for inadvertently showcasing the film’s commitment to authenticity and practical effects:

“We went to great lengths to not shoot it on sound stages with digital environments. The internet has proven that by (leaking) pictures of our shoot. Thank you internet! We wanted something that felt grounded, real.”

Anticipation for More

As eager fans await additional glimpses of Deadpool 3, it’s important to note that further updates are unlikely to surface until the strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA conclude. Currently, the film remains in a state of uncertainty, alongside other projects like Thunderbolts, Blade, Wonder Man, Daredevil: Born Again, and more.

Despite the production setback, the film’s ties to concepts introduced in Loki suggest that the second season of Tom Hiddleston’s streaming series may heighten anticipation for the upcoming Deadpool 3.

Originally slated for release on May 3, 2024, the film’s premiere date was pushed back due to the strikes. As of now, Deadpool 3 does not have a new release date. However, should the strikes conclude in the coming months, there remains a possibility that the film could still grace theaters before the close of 2024, offering fans the long-awaited adventure of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool.
