The hive is buzzing louder than ever. The Beekeeper 2, the sequel to the 2024 surprise action hit, is officially set to sting theaters on January 15, 2027, and it’s promising to be a very different, far more vicious breed of insect. With director Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us) taking over the hive, the sequel is ditching subtlety for a full-throttle descent into what he calls “genre” madness, inspired by the most extreme anime and manga.

In his own words, Tjahjanto is on a mission to transform Jason Statham’s stoic assassin, Adam Clay, into his own version of The Punisher.
The first film succeeded by blending Statham’s signature ruthless efficiency with a satisfying, if straightforward, revenge plot. For the sequel, Tjahjanto is cranking every dial to eleven. “You’re gonna be blown away just how ‘genre’ it feels,” the director teased, promising villains that look like they’ve leapt off the pages of a hyper-violent comic book. This suggests a world that is broader, more stylized, and far more grotesque than the corporate conspiracy of the original.

Tjahjanto sees in Statham’s quiet, focused rage the perfect analogue to Marvel’s Frank Castle: “He has that very stoic Frank Castle-esque quality to him. And I love that Adam Clay is definitely a guy who is quite colorful in his choice of violence. He gets really, really creative with his violence”. This is a declaration of intent: expect the action to be more inventive, more brutal, and more spectacularly over-the-top.

The film will see Statham return alongside key allies like FBI agent Verona Parker (Emmy Raver-Lampman) and faces from the first chapter, including Jeremy Irons. They’re joined by exciting new additions like Pom Klementieff (Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy), who thrives in physically intense roles, and former WWE superstar Adam Copeland, guaranteeing even more hard-hitting combat.
Amazon MGM Studios is showing serious faith, having acquired global rights in a deal worth over $50 million and strategically planting the film on the lucrative Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend—the same corridor that helped the first film buzz past $160 million worldwide. By handing the reins to a visionary of visceral action like Tjahjanto and empowering him to reinvent the tone, The Beekeeper 2 isn’t just planning to protect the hive. It’s preparing to declare all-out war, and the box office in January 2027 will be its battlefield.
