The superhero genre has dominated the entertainment industry for a long time. There are certain talents that have been able to play in multiple sandboxes. James Gunn has directed projects in both cinematic universes. Is The Suicide Squad getting a sequel? Here is the latest from him.

The Suicide Squad was a wild R-rated romp that featured a ton of grizzly deaths. He was going to expand the story with John Cena’s Peacemaker series. Is Task Force X going to be back on the big screen? Gunn was recently asked just that by The Playlist, responding honestly with: “Yeah, we’ve talked about it. But the honest truth is, I just have so many hours in a day to work on stuff. And I had such a fun time working in television that I really think that’s what I’m going to spend the next year of my life doing.”

You have it. It won’t be in a theatrical sequel for The Suicide Squad, but more content within the DC Extended Universe. We will have to wait and see how many of these characters show up in his TV shows. Peacemaker had a number of exciting connections to the DCEU, including a surprise appearance by the Justice League.

Thanks to his time as the vision behind the movie, James Gunn has been working on superhero movies for years. It seems like DC has his attention for the future, although he’ll first finish the comic book story with Guardians 3 and the Holiday Special. He will be on the small screen when he returns to the DCEU.

It makes sense that James Gunn would respond well to a television format given his years in movies. It is a different beast when it comes to pacing and how much can be included in the story. We will have to wait and see how his vision puts its own spin on the TV format with any future DC projects coming down the line.

Some fans will be disappointed that a sequel to The Suicide Squad won’t happen soon, even though James Gunn is still a part of the DCEU. The property was brought back to theaters after the movie flopped. While he killed off beloved characters, he has a clear love for Task Force X.

Black Adam will be in the DCEU on October 21st. You can plan your next movie experience by checking out the movie release dates.
