Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman just dropped Jurassic World sequel tea that’s got franchise fans more excited than velociraptors at feeding time. Apparently, Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett might return for Jurassic World 5, because Universal Pictures looked at that $864 million worldwide box office and thought, “Yeah, we need more of that sweet, sweet dinosaur money.”

Sequel Speculation

The Jurassic World sequel rumors stem from Rebirth‘s box office success and Gareth Edwards’ previous comments about franchise potential. “When I look back on sequels, trilogies that I love, what they all have in common is that the first movie was on its own, and then it became a high-class problem of how do we now make the others?” Edwards told ScreenRant, basically admitting he designed a sequel trap.

Johansson chased this franchise for over a decade before landing the lead role. “Anytime the opportunity came up, I expressed my interest,” she revealed to Vanity Fair. Her covert ops expert character Zora ultimately open-sources dinosaur DNA to the world – a plot thread that screams “sequel setup” louder than a T-Rex’s roar.

Edwards’ Evolution

Director Gareth Edwards specifically conceived Rebirth as a standalone film, though he left wiggle room for continuation. The Jurassic World sequel would likely explore consequences of Zora’s DNA-sharing decision, potentially featuring new dinosaur threats or international conflicts over genetic material. Steven Spielberg remains executive producer through Amblin Entertainment, ensuring franchise quality control.

Whether Edwards returns for directing duties remains unclear – he hinted at potentially passing the torch to another filmmaker. With David Koepp’s screenplay setting up global implications and Rebirth‘s $180-225 million production budget proving profitable, Universal has every incentive to greenlight the Jurassic World sequel. Sometimes life finds a way – especially when that way leads straight to the bank.
