Leonard is officially returning for Angry Birds 3, because apparently 2026 still has surprises left in the tank. The former pig king and chronic bad decision maker is coming back as the villain, and the internet is having an absolute field day about it. Some people are thrilled. Some people are confused. Everyone is wondering how this green blob with a British accent is still causing chaos a full decade after he first stole the eggs.
For those who need a refresher, Leonard was the main antagonist in the first Angry Birds Movie and then became a reluctant ally in the sequel because nothing says character growth like teaming up with the birds you tried to genocide. He is petty, dramatic, and weirdly charismatic for a pig who spends most of his screen time failing at basic villainy. Leonard returning as a full-blown bad guy suggests the writers are done with the redemption arc and ready to let him be evil again. Thank goodness.
Angry Birds 3 is set to hit theaters on December 23, 2026, and the plot sounds absolutely unhinged. Red and Silver are now parents to three kids, including a son named Ollie who has blue feathers and yellow glasses. There is also a new sidekick called Fuzzy, which is described as a small fluffy spider-like creature that looks like a bright blue puffball with oversized eyes. I am not making this up. Leonard is going to face off against a nuclear family and their pet spider. Cinema is saved. The fact that this is coming out December 23 means Leonard is literally the last villain standing between us and the end of the year.
Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Rachel Bloom, and Danny McBride are all returning to voice the bird squad, while John Rice is back in the director chair. The film also added Emma Myers, Keke Palmer, Tim Robinson, and Lily James to the cast in undisclosed roles. My personal theory is that one of them is voicing Leonard long-suffering assistant, but that is pure speculation. What we know for sure is that Leonard is back, he is bad, and he is probably going to lose in spectacular fashion.
The Angry Birds movies have always been way more fun than they had any right to be. The first one was a genuine hit. The second one was surprisingly decent. And now Leonard is getting a full villain comeback tour just in time for Christmas. Is this necessary? Absolutely not. Am I going to watch it? Obviously. There is something deeply comforting about animated movies where the stakes are just eggs and the villain is a pig with an inferiority complex.
So yes, Leonard is back. The birds are angry. The pigs are scheming. And somewhere in a writers room, someone pitched an entire feature film around a green pig trying to steal breakfast again.
