The Maker isn’t your average comic book bad guy. This version of Reed Richards has been planning Spider Man death for over a decade, and the reckoning is finally coming. With Marvel’s Ultimate universe heading toward its apocalyptic finale called “Endgame,” the Maker’s 14-year murder plot is about to reach its crescendo.

The Maker’s Twisted Obsession

The Maker debuted way back in Ultimate Fallout (2011) #4. Since then, he’s been methodically erasing superheroes from existence. His methodology is terrifying: he time-traveled back and prevented Peter Parker from ever getting bit by that radioactive spider. For two decades in the Ultimate timeline, Spider-Man never existed. Tony Stark changed that equation by giving adult Peter the spider and a chance at heroism he should have been born with.

This makes Peter essentially a target. Specifically, the Maker considers him “mission critical” for elimination. Why? Because Tony believes Peter is vital to defeating the Maker’s plans. That possibility alone makes Peter worth hunting.

Jonathan Hickman’s Ultimate Spider Man run has been building to this confrontation. The solicitation for Ultimate Endgame #4 promises the final battle fans have been waiting for. Here’s where it gets wild: the cover for that issue is so secretive that Warner Bros literally redacted it from preview images. Illustrated by Mark Brooks, the cover supposedly depicts Spider Man and the Maker actually fighting. The studio’s keeping it classified because spoilers matter in 2025.

What makes the Maker so dangerous isn’t just his intellect or resources. It’s his cosmic view of chaos and control. He formed a secret council to rule the world from shadows, preventing any heroes from rising to challenge his authority. Spider Man represents the ultimate failure of that plan—an accident given a second chance.

The Maker has had 14 years to prepare. Peter Parker has had months of actual experience as a superhero. Ultimate Endgame #1-4 arrives February through March 2025, with Spider Man’s finale hitting before the Maker concludes his own story. Whatever happens, this confrontation represents Marvel’s riskiest Ultimate universe gamble yet. Heroes getting erased? Villains actually winning? The Maker doesn’t fight Spider Man for glory. He fights him to erase him completely.
