Netflix’s Last Samurai Standing premieres November 13, 2025, turning 292 desperate warriors loose in Meiji-era Japan for the ultimate survival game. Based on Shogo Imamura’s award-winning Ikusagami novels, this six-episode series promises one point per kill and 100 billion yen to the last warrior standing.
Deadly Stakes
Last Samurai Standing follows protagonist Shujiro Saga (Junichi Okada) entering the brutal contest to save his sick wife and child. Set at Tenryuji Temple in Kyoto during the late 19th century, each warrior receives a wooden tag steal others’ tags and reach Tokyo to claim the prize.

Author Shogo Imamura expressed delight at Okada’s casting: “I wrote ‘Ikusagami’ with the intention of making a historical novel that could be enjoyed worldwide. Having Junichi Okada in the lead role was a dream come true, as I had envisioned him as Shujiro while writing”.
