The plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been leaking like a sieve, and if even half of these rumors are true, Tom Holland’s fourth outing as the web-slinger is going to make No Way Home look like a quiet character study. We’re talking Hulk rampages, Punisher team-ups, ancient ninja clans, and a possible villain crossover that could either be brilliant or disastrous, depending on which corner of the multiverse you’re pulling from.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY – Day One on Set

According to industry insiders who have been steadily dropping breadcrumbs since filming wrapped, Brand New Day jumps forward four years from the events of No Way Home. Peter Parker is now a full-time Spider-Man operating in a world that has forgotten his identity, and he’s grown into the role in ways that would make Tony Stark proud—if Tony Stark remembered who he was. The film reportedly opens with Peter easily handling street-level threats, showing how much he’s matured since the last time we saw him struggling with high school physics.

But the main event involves two Marvel characters who have never shared the screen before, and whose interaction promises to be explosive in every sense of the word. Bruce Banner, specifically in his Gray Hulk form, is apparently rampaging through populated areas as a “rage beast fueled by anger,” having reverted to his most primitive state. Mark Ruffalo is reportedly playing this version of Hulk as angrier than we’ve ever seen him, to the point where whisper campaigns suggest he might actually kill someone during his rampage.

Enter Frank Castle. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, who hasn’t been seen in the MCU since his Netflix series ended, has decided that the Hulk is too dangerous to live and takes it upon himself to eliminate the threat permanently. According to leaks, Castle has acquired advanced weaponry and his own armored vehicle—described as a “tank” or “Batmobile-style war machine”—to hunt the Jade Giant. This sets up a three-way conflict: Punisher wants to kill Hulk, Spider-Man wants to save Hulk, and Hulk just wants to smash everything.

The dynamic reportedly shifts when Spider-Man and Punisher attempt to team up until Peter realizes Frank’s intent is murder, not rescue. The ensuing confrontation forces Peter to use his abilities to immobilize Castle, leading to a moment where Frank realizes this Spider-Man is “something much more” than the street-level heroes he’s used to dealing with, potentially out of his league entirely.

The leaks get wilder. Apparently, the Hulk cannot be affected by the memory spell that made the world forget Peter Parker, meaning he recognizes Spider-Man when Peter pulls off his mask to reveal his identity. This recognition reportedly calms the Hulk down enough to hear reason, suggesting a moment of connection between two Avengers-era heroes who have both lost everything.

And then there’s the ninja problem. The Hand—that ancient, nefarious clan of mystical assassins usually associated with Daredevil and Wolverine—are rumored to appear in Brand New Day, potentially complicating an already crowded narrative. Whether they’re working with or against the other players remains unclear, but their presence suggests Destin Daniel Cretton is drawing from deep cuts in Marvel’s street-level lore.

The most divisive leak involves the Chameleon. Concept art reportedly spotted on set suggests the master of disguise could appear, leading to speculation about whether Marvel might recycle Fred Hechinger’s version from the failed Kraven the Hunter film or introduce Numan Acar’s Dmitri from Far From Home as the comic book villain. Either way, a shape-shifter in a movie about identity and memory feels thematically appropriate.

If these leaks hold true—and that’s a big if, given the mixed track records of the sources—Brand New Day is shaping up to be the darkest Spider-Man film yet. A hero forced to choose between stopping a rampaging monster and preventing a vigilante from committing murder. A protagonist operating in a world that has forgotten his humanity, trying to remind another hero of his own. And somewhere in the middle, a Punisher who doesn’t care about the distinction.

Peter Parker wanted to be an Avenger. He got his wish. He just didn’t realize the job description included talking down rage monsters and stopping war criminals from crossing the line.

Prepare for the chaos—see Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters July 31, 2026, and find out which leaks were real.
