Avengers: Endgame Encore is back in theaters, and the honest consensus is basically this: the movie still slaps, the new footage is fine, and Marvel’s marketing department deserves a raise for convincing us all to pay for homework.

The re-release adds four minutes of material to a film that already earned its place in cinema history. Endgame capped the Infinity Saga with Tony Stark’s sacrifice, Steve Rogers’ dance, and a Portals sequence that still makes grown adults cry in public. That has not changed. What has changed is Disney’s willingness to charge premium prices for scenes that range from “genuinely cool worldbuilding” to “should have been a Disney Plus bonus feature that drops on a Tuesday and nobody notices.”
The four new scenes break down like this. Loki visits Steve and Peggy during their closing dance, wearing a TVA uniform and offering ambiguous help that probably means trouble. Bruce Banner gets confronted by Doctor Doom in an underground bunker after the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the whole thing ends with Hulk roaring and green Latverian runes covering the floor.
The TVA watches universes collide in a multiversal incursion chain reaction that destroys thousands of realities including the Fox X-Men Earth. And Doom forges his mask over the same hammering sound that originally signaled Tony Stark’s origin in 2008, because subtlety is dead and Marvel killed it.
Reviews are split right down the middle. Some critics gave the re-release a 4.5 out of 5, arguing that Endgame on the big screen is worth the ticket no matter what extras are attached. Others called it a blatant cash grab, noting that standard screenings only get around two minutes of new footage while IMAX and Infinity Vision holders get the full four-scene treatment.
The discrepancy has frustrated fans who showed up expecting the complete package and got a truncated version instead, which is a completely fair complaint when the marketing sold this as one unified experience rather than a tiered product.
Here is the thing though. Endgame is still Endgame. Robert Downey Jr.’s final scene as Tony Stark still lands like a truck full of emotions. The “I am Iron Man” moment still works. The funeral still hurts in all the right ways. If you have never seen this movie in a theater, the Encore is absolutely worth it. If you have already watched it twelve times on Disney Plus while eating cereal in your pajamas, the new footage is a curiosity, not a necessity. Marvel wants you to treat this as required viewing before Doomsday. The reality is that you could skip it entirely, watch a five-minute recap on YouTube, and lose nothing meaningful.
