Narnia has revealed its first official poster for Greta Gerwig’s The Magician’s Nephew, and the image points toward the story’s biggest idea rather than a familiar wardrobe or castle. A vast silhouette of Aslan fills the design, with stars and the cosmos woven into his mane, hinting at the creation of Narnia itself. The first trailer is scheduled for October 13.

The poster introduces a story set before The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The Magician’s Nephew follows Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer as they encounter a strange world connected to other realms. Their adventure brings them into contact with Jadis, the future White Witch, and with Aslan, whose song creates Narnia. It is an origin story for the world rather than a retelling of the best-known adventure.
Gerwig can build this fantasy setting from its beginning rather than revisit familiar events. Aslan surrounded by stars suggests a creation myth more than a conventional hero shot, giving the poster a clear identity without revealing much of the plot. It is recognizable to longtime readers, but mysterious enough for someone who has never opened a C. S. Lewis book.

Gerwig is writing and directing the adaptation, following projects including Lady Bird, Little Women and Barbie. Her work often explores identity, family and expectations, giving The Magician’s Nephew room to balance large fantasy ideas with a personal story about children encountering a world adults do not understand.
The cast brings together newcomers David McKenna as Digory and Beatrice Campbell as Polly with established performers in major supporting roles. Emma Mackey plays Jadis, Carey Mulligan appears as Digory’s mother Mabel, and Daniel Craig plays Uncle Andrew. Meryl Streep voices Aslan, with Ciarán Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough and Susan Wokoma also among the cast. Those names suggest Netflix is treating the adaptation as one of its larger fantasy releases.

The casting of Aslan is likely to attract particular attention because the character has carried emotional weight across previous Narnia adaptations. The poster does not reveal Streep’s performance, but its cosmic mane imagery highlights the character’s role in creating the world. That focus also distinguishes this story from earlier films, which centered more directly on children entering an already established Narnia and discovering its rules.
Netflix has planned a theatrical release for the film before it arrives on the streaming service. The Magician’s Nephew is set to open in IMAX on February 10, 2027, then expand to theaters on February 12, with a Netflix premiere scheduled for April 2. The release plan gives the fantasy adventure a substantial theatrical window rather than treating it as a streaming-only title.

The poster is only the beginning of the campaign, and the trailer should clarify the film’s visual style, its approach to the source material and how Gerwig imagines Narnia’s creation. Fans may have strong feelings about any new adaptation, but the first image does not reveal enough to judge the entire film, its performances or its balance between wonder and danger.
For now, the silhouette of Aslan does the job. It signals that Gerwig is starting at the beginning, with the birth of a world, rather than simply repeating the most familiar moments from the franchise.
