Fall 2: Deadpoint Ending | Luce Betrayal Explained

The Fall 2: Deadpoint ending is a mess. A beautiful, tense, wildly stupid mess. And it hinges on a twist that reframes the entire movie: Luce was never Jax’s friend. She was a fan. The Luce betrayal is the engine that drives the final act, and it is absolutely unhinged in the best possible way.

Here’s the deal. Luce, played by Arsema Thomas, isn’t one of Shiloh’s old friends. She’s one of her online followers. A stan. A person who built her entire identity around a woman she never met. The Luce betrayal isn’t personal. It’s parasocial. She wanted to complete Shiloh’s “fuck-it list” because she felt entitled to it. She wanted to be part of the story. The Luce betrayal is the logical endpoint of fandom culture, and it is terrifying.

The film plays this reveal like a punch to the gut. Jax trusted her. They climbed a mountain together. They survived a rockslide. And then, in the final stretch, Luce shows her true colors. She’s not a friend. She’s a leech. The Luce betrayal changes everything. It makes the climb pointless. It makes the trauma meaningless. Jax was never honoring her sister. She was feeding a stranger’s obsession.

But the Luce betrayal isn’t even the wildest part of the ending. That would be the drug smuggling subplot. Their guide, Jon, has been using them as unaware mules for fentanyl the entire time. He rescues them at the end, not out of heroism, but because he needs his drugs back. The Luce betrayal and the Jon betrayal stack on top of each other like a terrible, sweaty Jenga tower. Everyone is using everyone. No one is safe.

The film ends with Jax surviving, but just barely. She doesn’t get closure. She doesn’t get catharsis. She gets to live, which is more than her sister got. The Luce betrayal leaves her with nothing but a canister of fentanyl and a renewed sense of how much people suck. It’s a bleak ending, but it’s honest.

The Luce betrayal also sets up a potential sequel. Becky, the survivor from the first film, receives a celebration of life invitation for Shiloh. Jax finds another page in Shiloh’s book labeled “Hell’s Chasm.” The cycle is going to continue. Someone else is going to climb something stupid and nearly die. The Luce betrayal is just the beginning.

Is the Luce betrayal earned? Barely. The film hints at it, but the reveal still feels abrupt. That’s fine. The point isn’t the twist. The point is the betrayal. Jax trusted someone, and that someone was a monster. The Luce betrayal is the emotional core of the film. Everything else is just rocks and vertigo.
