Fall 2: Deadpoint is a survival thriller that knows exactly what you want: sweaty palms and a sudden fear of heights. It delivers that in spades, even if it occasionally stumbles on its way to the summit.

Jax Hunter is not okay. She’s grieving her sister Shiloh, who fell to her death in the first movie. She’s also weirdly famous by association, because her sister became a posthumous internet legend as the “fall girl.” Her grief is messy and public, and the film doesn’t shy away from how exhausting that must be. Harriet Slater plays Jax Hunter with a raw, exposed energy that makes you root for her even when she’s making objectively terrible choices.

The premise is simple. Luce, a friend of Shiloh’s, convinces Jax Hunter to honor her sister by climbing a dangerous plank walk on Mount Kwan in Thailand. This isn’t just any hike. It’s a climb to a dragon statue that supposedly eats your fears. It’s also illegal, earthquake-prone, and a thousand different kinds of stupid. Jax Hunter goes anyway. Wouldn’t you?

The Spierig Brothers direct with a clear affection for the genre. They understand that the scariest thing in a movie like this isn’t the monster or the twist. It’s the silence. It’s the sound of wind whipping past a thousand-foot drop. It’s the creak of metal you’re not sure will hold. They use every trick in the book, and most of them work.

Where Fall 2: Deadpoint falters is in its midsection. The film gets distracted by side plots involving drug smugglers and a potential betrayal that feels more convoluted than tense. The first movie worked because it was just two women on a tower with no escape. Fall 2: Deadpoint adds too many moving parts. It’s still thrilling, but the purity is gone. Jax Hunter deserves a cleaner story.

The third act recovers. It’s tense, brutal, and genuinely surprising. The film earns its ending, even if it takes a few wrong turns to get there. Slater is fantastic throughout. She carries the movie on her back, and she never lets it drop. If the film has a future, it’s built on her performance.

Fall 2: Deadpoint (2026) Official Trailer 2 – Harriet Slater, Arsema Thomas

Is Fall 2: Deadpoint as good as the original? No. The original was a lightning-in-a-bottle surprise. This is a solid sequel that understands the assignment but doesn’t quite stick the landing. It’s worth watching for the vertigo alone. Just don’t expect to sleep well afterward. Jax Hunter will be there in your dreams, hanging from a plank, wondering why she ever agreed to this.
