Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Television’s prolific executive producer, has overseen countless projects—but Wonder Man holds a special place in his heart. The series, which debuts as part of the Marvel Spotlight banner, emerged from an unexpected creative collision.

Executive Producer Brad Winderbaum Explains the Origins of the Wonder Man Show

Two Ideas, One Show

The genesis of Wonder Man involved parallel development tracks that eventually merged into something unique. “Stephen [Broussard] and I were talking about a Wonder Man show,” Winderbaum explained, “and at the same time, Jonathan Schwartz was making Shang-Chi in Australia with Destin [Daniel Cretton]. They were talking about doing a Trevor Slattery show.”

The solution? Combine both concepts. “Someone had the great, great call to see if we could work together and see if we could make it a two-hander,” Winderbaum recalled.

To helm this unconventional pairing, Marvel brought in Andrew Guest, whose work on Hawkeye had impressed Winderbaum. “He came in and just had an amazing idea for this amazing emotional relationship between these two actors,” he said.

Capturing On-Set Magic

The pairing of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Sir Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery created something special on set—something Winderbaum witnessed firsthand. “I think that’s what the whole show does,” he reflected. “It’s a non-cynical love letter to Los Angeles and to the work that we do because we love it.”

That authenticity extends to the show’s depiction of Hollywood struggle. “I related too much to Simon’s desperate hustle, the audition grind,” Winderbaum admitted. “For anyone who wants to make it in the film business and the television business, you have to deal with so much rejection, so many people telling you no.”

Winderbaum speaks from experience: “The amount of projects I’ve worked on that didn’t happen are like, you know, 10 to 1, 30 to 1, 50 to 1 maybe.”

What to Take Away

When asked what he hopes audiences gain from the series, Winderbaum’s answer was simple but heartfelt: “I really want everyone to fall in love with Simon and Trevor the way I did.”

He promises the chemistry between the leads will win viewers over instantly. “It’s one of the best pairings we’ve ever had,” he said. “You can’t imagine it, but it’s true.”
