Benoit Blanc fans, your patience finally pays off. Knives Out 3 officially titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery hits Netflix December 12, 2025, promising Detective Blanc’s “most dangerous case yet.” Because apparently, surviving both a mansion murder mystery and a Greek island tech bro conspiracy wasn’t dangerous enough for our favorite Southern sleuth.
Knives Out 3 Assembles Another Star-Studded Suspect List
Writer-director Rian Johnson continues his Agatha Christie homage with another completely fresh cast surrounding Craig’s return. Knives Out 3 features Josh O’Connor (Challengers), Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott (Ripley), Cailee Spaeny (Civil War), Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church. That’s basically half of Hollywood lining up to be murdered mysteriously.

Johnson produced alongside Ram Bergman through T-Street Pictures as part of their massive $450 million Netflix deal. “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is,” Johnson explained. “There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
The Darker Side
Unlike the sunny Greek islands of Glass Onion, Knives Out 3 reportedly explores darker, more gothic territory. Early imagery suggests church settings and religious themes, with Josh Brolin and Josh O’Connor both playing priests. The synopsis teases “the impossible crime,” while the teaser features ominous church bells and Craig intoning about Blanc’s most perilous investigation.
“We structured the [Netflix deal] so that if I wanted to do something else next, I could,” Johnson told Deadline. “But honestly, over the past couple of months, the most exciting creative thing to me right now is that third movie.” Translation: Johnson’s officially addicted to crafting perfect murder mysteries, and we’re absolutely here for it.
The film world premieres at Toronto International Film Festival before opening London Film Festival in October. Johnson previously hinted at exploring Blanc’s queerness more deeply, noting “it’s baked into the genre a little bit [when] the detective is kind of set outside the realm of the human drama.”

With Knives Out 3 completing the trilogy, Netflix’s investment in Johnson’s mystery universe proves that sometimes throwing ridiculous amounts of money at genuine talent actually works. December can’t come fast enough for fans ready to solve another impossible case.
