The first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled to arrive today, October 13, giving viewers their first moving look at Netflix’s take on C. S. Lewis’s story about the creation of Narnia. A new teaser poster has already offered two important clues: a glimpse of Fledge, the flying horse, and the silhouette of Aslan with a full mane.

The poster is designed around Aslan rather than the human cast. His huge outline fills the image, while stars appear to spread through his mane, pointing toward the story’s central scene in which the lion sings Narnia into existence. It is a simple image, but the symbolism is hard to miss. This is an origin story about a world being made, not another visit to a place that already exists.
Fledge is the other detail worth watching. In the novel, the talking horse helps Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer travel through Narnia after the children discover a way between worlds. The poster appears to show the children riding the winged horse, giving the first concrete look at how the film will bring one of the book’s stranger creatures to the screen. A fantasy adaptation lives or dies on details like this. A horse with wings can look wondrous or unintentionally awkward, depending on its design and movement.

The trailer is expected at 2 p.m. Eastern Time, which works out to 11:30 p.m. in India. That timing means viewers in different regions will be waiting at very different hours, but the first footage should finally show whether Gerwig’s visual approach works beyond still photographs. Early promotional images have left room for debate over the movie’s period setting and its interpretation of familiar characters.
The film adapts The Magician’s Nephew, which was published in 1955 but is set much earlier in the book’s chronology. Gerwig has moved the human-world setting to the 1950s, linking the children’s story to Britain’s post-war generation and the culture that later produced artists such as David Bowie. The choice has prompted questions about continuity with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, whose opening depends on children leaving London during the Second World War.

The cast includes David McKenna as Digory, Beatrice Campbell as Polly, Emma Mackey as Jadis, Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew and Carey Mulligan as Digory’s mother. Meryl Streep voices Aslan, a casting choice that has attracted attention because of the lion’s religious meaning as well as its place in the franchise. The trailer may offer the first evidence of how Streep’s voice is shaped for a character usually imagined as deep, commanding and male.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled for IMAX previews on February 10, 2027, followed by a wide theatrical release on February 12. Netflix plans to stream it on April 2. That leaves several months between the first trailer and release, giving the marketing campaign time to answer the questions the poster has raised.
For now, the combination of Aslan’s cosmic silhouette and Fledge’s first appearance gives the trailer a clear task: make the world feel magical in motion, not just on a poster.
