Netflix has finally released the first full trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, and it does not take long to show that Greta Gerwig is approaching C. S. Lewis’s fantasy world with a very different visual rhythm. The footage jumps between old-fashioned London streets, strange new realms and bursts of cosmic color, before building toward the moment Aslan brings Narnia into existence.

The story follows Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, played by David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell, after they become involved with Andrew Ketterley, a magician played by Daniel Craig. His magical rings send the children between worlds, taking them to the mysterious Wood Between the Worlds and eventually to the place that will become Narnia. The adventure also introduces Jadis, played by Emma Mackey, long before she becomes the White Witch known from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The glimpses of London establish that the children begin in a recognizable world, making the sudden arrival of other realms feel even stranger and giving the fantasy a concrete starting point. That contrast could become one of the film’s strongest features, particularly if Gerwig allows the ordinary world to feel as detailed as the magical one.

One of the trailer’s clearest creature reveals is Fledge, the talking horse who can fly. The image of the children riding through an unfamiliar landscape gives a sense of the scale Gerwig is aiming for, while the strange transitions between locations suggest a story that moves beyond a simple journey from one magical place to another. This is, after all, the book about how the doors between worlds first opened.

Meryl Streep voices Aslan, whose appearance is saved for the trailer’s grandest moment. Rather than presenting the lion as an ordinary animal in a fantasy landscape, the footage gives him a cosmic presence, with stars and light forming his shape as he sings Narnia into life. It is an ambitious visual choice, and one that immediately separates this version from earlier adaptations centered on children entering an already existing kingdom.

The trailer’s soundtrack is another major talking point. Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” plays across the footage, lending the film a classic-rock grandeur that is not an obvious match for a children’s fantasy on paper. In motion, though, the music gives the images a strange, psychedelic energy. Whether that tone suits Lewis’s story will remain a matter of taste, but it certainly makes the trailer difficult to confuse with a conventional fantasy preview.

Gerwig wrote and directed the adaptation, and her background includes Lady Bird, Little Women and Barbie. The cast also features Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough and Susan Wokoma. Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who worked with Gerwig on Barbie, composed the original score, while the trailer’s use of Led Zeppelin gives the marketing campaign a separate musical hook.

NARNIA: THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW | Official Trailer | Netflix

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will open in IMAX previews on February 10, 2027, before its wider theatrical release on February 12. Netflix plans to add the film to its streaming service on April 2. The trailer offers an early look at the production’s scale, but it leaves the bigger question unanswered: can Gerwig’s bold visual style preserve the wonder and moral seriousness that made Lewis’s story last?
