Jessica Chastain is playing two roles. One is a mother. The other is the thing wearing her face. The new poster for Other Mommy makes that duality painfully clear, and if you’re a parent, it’s going to live in your head for a while.

The film centers on Bela, a young girl who forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home that looks exactly like her mother. That’s the hook. That’s the whole nightmare. Other Mommy isn’t about a monster under the bed. It’s about a monster in the hallway, making breakfast, asking how school was. Rob Savage directs. He did The Boogeyman and The Host, so he knows how to build dread from mundane spaces.
The poster is smart because it doesn’t show you the monster. It shows you the mother. Chastain looks normal. Happy. Domestic. That’s the horror. Other Mommy understands that the scariest thing isn’t something that looks wrong. It’s something that looks exactly right. Bela knows something is off. She can feel it. But she’s a kid. Who’s going to believe her?

Universal and Blumhouse are behind this one, which means it’s getting a real theatrical push. The film opens on October 9, 2026. Tickets are on sale now. The final trailer dropped in September, and the response has been strong. People are calling it one of the most unsettling horror premises of the year.
What makes Other Mommy interesting is the psychology. It’s not just a demon. It’s a doppelgänger. It’s the fear that the person who loves you might be replaced by something that only pretends to. That’s a primal fear. Every kid has worried about it. Every parent has worried about it. The film takes that worry and makes it literal.

Chastain is a producer on the film as well as the star. She’s been doing more horror lately, which is a good lane for her. She’s always been an intense performer. Horror lets her use that intensity in a different way. Other Mommy gives her two characters to play, and by all accounts, she makes both of them terrifying for completely different reasons.
The film is rated R for violence and disturbing imagery. That’s not a surprise. Savage doesn’t make family-friendly horror. He makes the kind of movies that make you want to leave a light on. Other Mommy looks like his darkest one yet.
Is it going to be good? Hard to say. Horror is a crowded market. But the premise is strong. The cast is strong. The director is strong. Other Mommy has all the pieces. October 9 is the date. Bring a friend. Or don’t. Either way, you’re going to check on your mom after this one.
