The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan had us all cackling when she revealed her most desperate pre-Superman press tour decision: hiring an actual witch to break her decade-long travel curse. During her July 16 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 35-year-old actress shared the hilariously chaotic details of what she calls her “petty witch” problem that nearly derailed her DC debut.

The Superman Press Tour That Almost Didn’t Happen

Rachel Brosnahan’s travel curse became so notorious that DC Studios co-head Peter Safran literally refused to travel with her. “He was like, ‘I’m not getting on a plane with you,'” she revealed to Fallon, explaining how airport delays, lost reservations, and “apocalyptic snowstorms” had plagued her for ten years. The curse even threatened her Superman audition when multiple flights were cancelled and delayed as she tried to reach Los Angeles from New York.

Filming for James Gunn’s Superman took place from February to July 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio, with Brosnahan starring opposite David Corenswet’s Clark Kent. The $363 million production from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures proved successful enough to launch Gunn’s new DC Universe, making Rachel Brosnahan’s travel woes even more critical to resolve before the global promotional campaign.

NDAs & Wishing Wells

Desperate times called for magical measures. “I got really desperate and I started asking people if anyone knew, like an energy healer or a past-life reader,” Brosnahan explained. The solution? “I called a witch and brought her to my house. She brought a wishing well and a wand, and she signed an NDA”.

The supernatural intervention worked perfectly. Brosnahan successfully completed the entire Superman world tour without incident, visiting London, Mexico City, and multiple other international locations. “I made it around the world, and I’m here, and I believe in witches and curses now,” she declared triumphantly.

Controversies

While Brosnahan’s witch story provided comic relief, Superman faced its own controversies regarding casting choices and Gunn’s DCU reboot plans. Some fans initially questioned Brosnahan’s casting as Lois Lane, though early reviews praised her chemistry with Corenswet. The film’s $363 million budget also sparked debates about superhero movie spending, though Warner Bros. remained confident in their investment.

Released on July 11, 2025, Superman grossed $456 million worldwide, proving that sometimes the best PR stunts happen off-camera. Brosnahan’s witch consultation story became an unexpected promotional goldmine, trending on social media and generating millions of views across platforms. Her honesty about seeking supernatural help resonated with audiences tired of generic celebrity interviews.
