Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Just Dropped New Images and They’re Absolutely Gutting

Sony Pictures knows how to torture fans. After leaving Miles Morales stranded in an alternate dimension where he became the Prowler instead of Spider-Man, they made everyone wait four years before releasing new images from the conclusion of the trilogy. But when those images arrived at CinemaCon 2026, they proved that the wait might actually be worth it—and that the final chapter is going to emotionally destroy us in ways we haven’t fully prepared for.

The four new stills from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse reveal a story far more intimate than the multiversal spectacle of Across the Spider-Verse. Yes, there are still infinite realities and cosmic stakes and Spider-People of every conceivable species. But the heart of this film appears to be family, specifically the relationship between Miles and his father Jefferson Morales, which the new images suggest will be central to the narrative.

One still shows Miles and Jefferson together in what looks like a quiet, domestic moment—a stark contrast to the neon-soaked chaos of the previous film. Another reveals young versions of Jefferson and his brother Aaron Davis, suggesting flashbacks that will explore the brothers’ history and the choices that led one to become a police officer and the other to become the Prowler. This is the animation equivalent of a prestige drama, using the multiverse as a backdrop for generational trauma and familial love.

The most action-oriented image features Miguel O’Hara, Spider-Man 2099, in full combat against another Spider-Person. Given where Across the Spider-Verse ended—with Miguel leading the Spider-Society in pursuit of Miles—this suggests that the conflict between them will escalate into genuine physical violence. Miguel isn’t just a bureaucratic antagonist anymore; he’s an active threat to Miles’s safety, driven by his belief that certain canon events must happen to preserve reality.

Another still showcases Spider-Punk in his full anarchic glory, confirming that Hobie Brown will return to support Miles in his hour of need. Spider-Punk was the breakout character of the previous film, and his presence here suggests that the final act will bring together Miles’s chosen family—the allies who believe in him regardless of what the multiverse demands—against the institutional forces trying to control his destiny.

The most heartbreaking image, however, is the one featuring the Davis brothers. Aaron and Jefferson, young and hopeful, before the world divided them. It suggests that Beyond the Spider-Verse will interrogate the same themes that made Into the Spider-Verse so powerful: that heroism is inherited, that family shapes us even when they’re not perfect, and that the people who love us sometimes hurt us without meaning to.

Directors Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Bob Persichett, and Justin K. Thompson have described this as the conclusion of Miles’s story, though given the success of the franchise, “conclusion” probably means “temporary resting place before the next spinoff.” Still, there’s a sense of finality to these images, a gravity that suggests they’re not afraid to let Miles suffer before he triumphs.

The film arrives June 18, 2027, which means fans have another year to speculate, theorize, and emotionally prepare. Given that Across the Spider-Verse ended on the most agonizing cliffhanger in modern animation, that year will feel like a decade. But if these images are representative of the final product, the wait will have been worth it.

Miles Morales started his journey as a kid bitten by a radioactive spider. He’s ending it as a young man who has to choose between saving his father and saving the multiverse. No pressure.

Prepare for the conclusion—mark your calendar for June 18, 2027, and revisit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse to catch every detail before the finale arrives.
