After achieving huge success at the box office, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is streaming on Peacock currently and will soon move on to Netflix. When? It collected a revenue of $1.36 billion at the worldwide box office, and Mario Bros. became a hit on Peacock. The movie was viewed with enthusiasm by 881,000 U.S. homes over its first four days of streaming but could not keep up with Guardians of the Galaxy‘s 1.3 million U.S. households during its first five show days on Disney+.

Is the movie streaming on Netflix?

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently available for streaming on Peacock, marking the platform where Universal’s films debut after their theatrical release.

However, there is a temporary shift in the streaming rights for the film. Under an agreement between Universal Studios and Netflix, Netflix will next have the rights to host animated films produced by Universal, particularly those created by DreamWorks and Illumination.

During this 18-month window, the animated films will follow a distribution pattern. They will begin with streaming on Peacock for four months, then move to Netflix for the subsequent 10 months, and finally return to the original streaming platform for the remaining four months of their availability. This distribution strategy ensures that viewers on both platforms can enjoy these animated films at different times within the given period.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie started streaming on Peacock on August 3, which means its shift to Netflix will occur in no time. Fans of the film can look forward to watching it on Netflix once it becomes available on the platform pertaining to the distribution cycle.

When will it stream on Netflix?

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is expected to make its arrival on Netflix in December, based on the release window details established in Universal’s agreement with Netflix. However, determining the exact date is challenging.

To predict the Netflix release date for Mario, we can fall back on the previous Universal animated movies and their distribution patterns:

  1. DreamWorks’ The Bad Guys was released in theaters on April 22, last year, and began streaming on Peacock on July 1. It moved to Netflix four months later, on November 1.

  2. Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru hit theaters on July 1, last year, and started streaming on September 23. After running on Peacock for four months, it moved to Netflix on January 30, this year which was originally scheduled for January 23.

  3. DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots: The Last Wish premiered in theaters on December 21, last year, and began streaming on Peacock on March 10. It made its way to Netflix slightly after the four-month period, on July 13.

Considering these examples, if The Super Mario Bros. Movie follows a four-month pattern after its Peacock debut, it is likely to start streaming on Netflix on December 3, this very year, and remain available on the platform until the fall of 2024. However, based on the previous release dates, it is safe for viewers to wait until December 10 for its arrival on Netflix.

But, for the time being, the Super Mario Bros. Movie is streaming on Peacock, and audiences who have access to this platform can enjoy a fun watch.
