Thor 5’s status and potential Phase 7 release with Hemsworth’s return and Waititi’s involvement remain uncertain, while the plot teases epic battles.

As of now, “Thor 5” has not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, but the end of Thor: Love and Thunder teased that “Thor will Return,” suggesting that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will continue his journey in some capacity, possibly in another solo film or team-up project.

Thor 4 (Love and Thunder) introduced various plot threads, including a battle with Hercules, which could naturally lead into a Thor 5 storyline. Hemsworth has expressed his willingness to stay in the MCU, and given his status as one of the original Avengers and a box office draw, it makes sense for Marvel to continue his franchise.

Release Timing for Thor 5

Marvel Studios has a packed release schedule through 2025, and several projects are already in development. This suggests that Thor 5 may not be a high priority and is unlikely to be fast-tracked. Realistically, Thor 5 may not debut until Phase 7, potentially releasing in late 2027 or even 2028.

Possible Returning Cast Members

In a potential Thor 5, Chris Hemsworth would reprise his role as Thor, and it’s likely that his adopted daughter, Love, portrayed by India Hemsworth, would also return. Russell Crowe’s Zeus and Brett Goldstein’s Hercules, introduced in Thor: Love and Thunder, could return as antagonists.

Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie and Jaime Alexander’s Sif, along with Korg (Taika Waititi) and Miek (Stephen Murdoch), may have uncertain fates due to potential shifts in the tone of the franchise. Idris Elba’s Heimdall and Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, though deceased, could have future plans, as hinted in the post-credits scene of Thor 4.

Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, could also make a comeback after the multiversal events of Avengers 5 and 6 and the Disney+ series, potentially bringing the TVA God of Mischief into the main timeline.

Taika Waititi’s Involvement

Taika Waititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, has given mixed responses about the possibility of directing Thor 5. While he expressed willingness to work on it with Hemsworth if it’s “surprising and unexpected,” he also mentioned a desire for a low-budget road trip movie.

Given the backlash to the comedic tone of Love and Thunder, Hemsworth’s desire for a tonal shift, and Waititi’s busy schedule, it remains uncertain whether Waititi will return for Thor 5. Another director may be considered to bring a different vision to the franchise.

Potential Plot for Thor 5

The Potential Fate of Thor 5 in the MCU

Thor: Love and Thunder set Thor on a new path, traveling the galaxy with Love, his adopted daughter, and facing off against Hercules, who was sent by Zeus to challenge Thor’s strength and the abilities of Earth’s superheroes.

Thor and Hercules have a history of rivalry in Marvel Comics but often unite against larger threats. Thor 5 could explore this dynamic, potentially evolving from opposition to cooperation as they face a significant threat.

Considering Hemsworth’s desire for a different tone and the backlash to the comedic elements of Love and Thunder, Thor 5 may take a more serious and epic approach, aligning with the character’s evolution in the MCU.

While Thor 5 has not been officially confirmed, fans can look forward to more adventures from the God of Thunder in the future.

All four Thor movies can be streamed on Disney+.
